Songs About You EP Party with Huggie
It's well established that WTGG, queers, hipsters, geeks, foodies, that cute baby with the hot moms - everyone - goes to Big Bear Cafe. They have great coffee, hot staff, a quaint little location tucked a mini-block off of Florida Ave., and a burgeoning offering of events. WTGG overcame our wintertime provincial DCist attitudes and traveled across as many as three entire neighborhoods on Tuesday to check out the latest offering:
Huggie, a longtime Lyrics and Lace performer and member of the Champion CooLots, threw a party to celebrate her newly released EP "Songs About You." The bluesy set resonated through the small space nicely, leaving us to feel warmly melancholy like good blues should.
MC and overall cool DC chick SolSis aka Dappho the Flow-er warmed the mic up.
"what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, but what happens when you lose your mind?"
WTGG brainstormed responses - binge drinking? hardly thought-out dance floor make outs? lots of Erykah Badu, self loathing, Janis Joplin and awkward crying jags in public places? omg are we losing our minds right now? wait I know - let's call Lauryn Hill and get the answer from the expert.
With a Little Percussion Help from Champion CooLot Friends
"I've got your halo in my pocket," Huggie moaned. I double checked my pockets to make sure I also had all halos accounted for. Please be on the lookout for one slightly tarnished halo lost in the vicinity of Florida and 2nd NW. Imma need that back.
"I may never know if you love me too."
That's not true, Huggie. You know we love you. WTGG <3s queer music, Tuesdays at coffee shops listening to mellow raspy blues jams, and that guitar strap.
