Friday night DJ’s Bent and mothershiester are putting on another Africa is Not a Country Happy Hour. The idea behind this event is to showcase all unique sounds from the continent of Africa. “We want to challenge the monolithic idea of "Africa" or "African music" and show how there are more than 50 countries, and even more cultures and musical genres, on the continent that shouldn't be all lumped together,” explains Bent.

This time around the two DJ’s are also bringing in live music. The Manhattan-based Nettle, led by DJ/rupture will be performing an “amazing mix of North African folk tunes, electronic beats, and avant-garde noise,” says Bent. Nettle just released their album El Resplandor: The Shining in Dubai—which was inspired by the idea of setting Stanley Kubrick's The Shining in a luxury hotel in Dubai instead of Colorado.

Friday night is free, at Marrakech Lounge, the party starts at 7 and goes to 11, but don’t miss Nettle taking the stage at 9.

But if you want more of late night dance-your-face-off party, don’t fret. Bent will also be DJing Booty Call Saturday night along with the rest of her Anthology of Booty DJs: Natty Boom, rAt, Trash, and Mothersheister, along with a special guest MC Zombie.

Some background on Anthology of Booty, in case you're still unaware of just who they are. They've been djing together since 2006. “We realized we were doing a lot of projects and house parties together,” says Bent. “We were putting in a ton of effort to create inclusive spaces where harassment and violence was a no-go and wanted to bring that into a club setting.” They're the ones responsible for putting on the monthly dance party, Backdoor.

The music selection promises an eclectic mix of dancehall, pirated Kenyan pop, no wave post-punk, Miami booty bass, Balkan beats, Kuduro, reggaeton. “It’s a bootylicous house party that we are so thrilled about,” says Bent.  “Anthology of Booty will make your booty drop! What more is there to say?”

$5 will keep you dancing til the sun comes up; or until you find that special someone. Whichever comes first. Either way, you wont be disappointed.

Booty Call takes place at O Street Studios. But since it’s a live/work space you have to RSVP for the exact location anthologyofbooty@gmail.com
